New Painting – Sunflowers for Ukraine
Just as the war between Russia and Ukraine was starting, I was painting a sky and greenery onto a large 40 inch by 30 inch canvas and wondering what I should add as flowers. On the news information about Ukraine was unfolding minute by minute. I didn’t know much about Ukraine, but now I learned that the flag is blue and gold, representing a blue sky and wheat field, I grew up in an area where winter wheat is commonly grown and it truly is a beautiful sight when the wheat ripens and rustles in a brisk breeze. I also learned that the national flower for Ukraine is the sunflower, a flower very dear to my heart.
My Art Featured in Exhibition in April
I have a featured art exhibition at KALEID Gallery, with the opening reception on April 1st, titled “A Happier Place.” This event coincides with the South First Fridays Art Walk in the downtown San Jose SoFA Art District.

Starting a New Series of Paintings
These are some thumbnail images I created with watercolor and ink to help sort out my thinking for the start of a new series of paintings. I’m playing around with possible composition ideas here. It’s a Spring theme, with lots of blossoming fruit trees and California poppies, reminiscent of Spring in the past where I live, but with other unexpected elements thrown in.
