It’s quirky cat time and I’ve added three new paintings to my website and Etsy store.
Catnip Herb Kitty was inspired by marijuana being legalized in California in 2018. The advertising boggles my mind as something I thought I’d never see in my lifetime. To make playful fun of the spectacle, I placed my kitty in front of a psychedelic background with some catnip and the word “herb”. I resisted the temptation to go overboard and add concentric circles around my kitty’s eyes. High quality giclée prints of Catnip Herb Kitty are on Etsy.com.
What Do Cats Like Kitty sits in front of a funky grid background. I’ve been experimenting with these backgrounds recently and have two more paintings with a similar background in the pipeline. I’ve been allowing the paint and gravity to decide the shapes of the rectangles, so they’re random in nature. I thought it seemed like sort of a stained glass effect, but my hubbie called it a “crazy quilt” design and an Instagram friend commented that it’s also similar to mosaics. Scattered in the background are words describing things cats like, such as string, moths cardboard boxes, etc. High quality giclée prints of What Do Cats Like Kitty are on Etsy.com.
Mystery Cat in Blues was the first funky cat I created. He’s taken from a large 48×36 inch painting titled Mystery Cats. He’s the first cat I painted with a white bullseye around his eye. I actually started with the eye and then added a cat around the eye. High quality giclée prints of Mystery Cat in Blues are on Etsy.com.
